Topic: Guards that are hard/easy on the knees. HELP!

hey forum, i didn't know where to post this, so i joined the draculino forum because i heard he has done a lot for the spider guard.
this is relevant because of late my knees have been hurting, and the advanced bells i ask tell me it's because of spider guard.
so, 1) what is the safest guard for the knees
and 2) how can i make spider guard safer for my knees.
thanks a lot

Half guard and closed guard have never bothered my knees and I've had my MCL torn. Can't help you on the spider guard side of things, I only play with it every now and then.

I'll ask Draculino here in a bit.  After my knee surgery last year (meniscus repair) I've done half guard mostly and not had any issues.

He's had several knee surgeries and loves spider.

I used to only play spider/open guard and then I had half  my meniscus removed about 1 month ago and during the healling process, I did closed guard only. It was great on my knees, I recovered great and now I love to play closed guard and will go to open guard when it happens..but I don't make it MY ONLY game..which takes some stress off of it.

I need to get some work/time in on the spider and DLR guard. I'm still very green about opening up my closed guard and transitioning to other guards.

Another option is the sitting guard. When I jacked my knee I could not do spider which is one of my favorite open guard game. So I used half guard and sitting guard a lot. I used sitting guard(bad leg on ground and other leg up and a lot of butt scooting!) because I was not confident in my closed guard due to my short legs but I recently incorporated(or forced) closed guard to my game and been having success with it.
Seems like closed guard and half guard have been used a lot by top players when they have been injured. In Rodrigo Medeiros's book he said to use closed guard when your also very tired or when you have an injury. Which makes sense
Sitting guard can also be used when you have an injured arm as well.

half guard puts relatively little to no stress on your knees
