Topic: Tech question

Thank you for the free trial.  Great resource and hopefully I'll sign up sooner than later.

Any chance there is a break down of the sweep that Roger Gracie pulls off at the 5:00 mark of this video on the site?

It's a 1/2 guard sweep where he reaches over the shoulder of the guy on top, grabs his belt, and lifts him on his chest then sort of rolls to side control.  I've never seen it broken down and I've tried to recreate it in training.  Sometimes I pull it off out of dumb luck but most of the time I fail miserably.  big_smile

Re: Tech question

It is actually a hard move because you will exposed to armtriangle but Roger does exactly on the correct way. He uses his hips to bump and take the wieght out of the opponent. Then, with perfect timing, when your oponent is light, you do the reversal. It requires a great sense of balance but as the arm is trapped, it gets a really good option of reversal.

Re: Tech question

Thanks for the response.  I get my arm in that position a lot in the 1/2 and I try to pull that sweep off.  I might have better luck working to not getting into that position to begin with.

Re: Tech question

That video is awesome. Simple Jiu-Jitsu executed to perfection, over and over and over again.

Carlos Gracie -> Reylson Gracie -> Paulo Mauricio Strauch -> Flavio Nobre -> Daniel Lima -> Me

Re: Tech question

Thats a great move, I been training with a move like that, Cyborg Abreu's dvd, you are in half guard...and you get trapped in that position except your arm is not on that shoulder but the far one, you go underneath your own leg, the inside one, to grab his pant leg so u can free your outside leg and hold the guy in your half guard without the help of the outside leg, then with your free arm, the one the far shoulder you grab the back of his lapel, pull him up, swing your free leg up getting your head underneath your opponent, as you do that u trap the back of the arm the arm that was cross facing you the one to side your going to roll to for the sweep... u do that with the arm that just pulled on the back of the lapel...if you don't get underneath the opponent with your head at least at a 45 degree angle, your not going to get the sweep...u got to get your head underneath at a 45 degree angle and elevate your hips to roll.

Great stuff...take care, let me know if you got the technique.
