Don't drop too much weight, or else you will end up gassing easy during the actual fight.

If your going to be dropping weight like that, make sure to weigh in on the night before if possible.

Re: dropping weight?

its a bjj tournament so they will be weighing in the day of the event i suppose.  but i cant register up until the day before so I am just gonna eat better, jog a little and basically do shit i should be doing anyway and see where i am at when the day rolls around.  thanks for the answers too.  i was actually curious about the responses i would see.  not seeing all the "take this pill, wear this suit, stick this up your ass, etc" lets ya know the level and mentality of people on this forum compared to all the meatheads on other forums. lol

Sean, he'll be competing in a weight class so that doesn't make much sense.

Misterkin,

what is a typical days nutrition for you ?

Re: dropping weight?

Misterkin,

First what weight class are you in?  If your a bigger guy it could be easy for you cut the weight by making some simple changes to your diet and sweating out the rest.  If you are a smaller thin guy it might be kind of tough.  This is what I would do and its pretty simple and safe.  Limit your carbs and your sodium intake.  I didn't say don't eat carbs at all I just said limit them for the next two weeks.  If you have eat carbs make sure they are slow digesting carbs, brown rice, sweet potatoes, whole wheat breads and pastas. Eat losts of protein, chicken breasts, extra lean beef, egg whites etc... No salt, this will make you retain water and you don't want to do that of course because you should start drinking about a gallon- a gallon and half of water a day until about 3-4 days before the tournament.  About 3-4 days before start decreasing your water intake, 4 days out drink 3/4 a gallon, 3 days out 1/2 a gallon, 2 days out 1/4 a gallon, the day before weigh yourself first thing in the morning to see where you are weight wise and you should drink water accordingly or only as needed.  And eat pretty light as well.  If you need to cut a few lbs, go do some light drilling or rolling and get a good sweat in.  You should be able to make this no problem.  I did this and cut 20 lbs in about 2 weeks and made weight no problem.  Hope this helps.

Re: dropping weight?

Yeah, I'd be considered bigger or stockier, I guess.  5-9, 210-215ish...most of the time.  Just want to make sure I make it in under 207.5, with gi.  Basically what you have mentioned is what I have been doing.  I cheated a little tonite and ate 1/2 a rack of dry baby-back ribs  roll , but all in all for the past week i have been cutting the sodas, quadrupling my water and eating tuna, rice, chunk chicken and crap like that with veggies and or maybe an apple for a snack.  I've done pretty good to not be going balls out starvation and I think I'll be ok.  I had no intention of sweating/pissing and pooping my brains out or otherwise trying to shut down any major organs like these dudes try to do before fights when they drop 3 damn weight classes.  Its not that serious.  Being build like a whiskey barrel typically allows for me to have the ability to put on 10 or 15 fairly easily just by curbing my appetite and half ass doing some extra cardio. (which i should spend much, much  more time doing anyway).  Thanks for the reply, like i said, i am basically doing what you mentioned so that actually gives me some mental support that i am doing something that can work and not just spinning my wheels in vein.
