Topic: Brazilian music

Guys I'm pretty busy so my plan is to just add to this list little by little, and others can add too! I'll start out with just a few random songs...

Here's a classic Brazilian song, written by the legendary Tom Jobim and sung by Elis Regina. This is an important song because Elis Regina has such a beautiful voice and Tom Jobim is "immortalized" for having written some amazing lyrics in his life. In addition to the beautiful lyrics, you can hear the beautiful Brazilian Portuguese accent.

Now here's a classic Brazilian rock song, by the highly successful band Titãs which has been around since the early 80's. This is my translation.

Next on the list is something I don't have a translation for (yet!) maybe I'll make one soon. But the band O Rappa is so great that they make the list without an english translation. I like to think of O Rappa as the Brazilian version of Rage Against the Machine, because their lyrics are usually about social problems and the band members always try to show and help social problems like poverty and violence. O Rappa is probably one of the most popular modern Brazilian rock bands. They have a lot of good songs and play some different styles too, so check them out on Youtube!

Here is a definite change of pace, with one of my favorite bands, Raimundos! Raimundos is the Portuguese equivalent to the Ramones, which was one of the bands biggest inspirations (they even cover many Ramones songs in English and in Portuguese). I'm including this for a few reasons.. They are very popular and many people consider them the best Brazilian rock band of all time, and I did the translation for these two songs. HOWEVER, I don't suggest you use their songs as a way to learn Portuguese. Firstly, it is probably too fast spoken and hard to understand to find useful. Second, they wrote "shock" lyrics.. you'll find this out when you watch the videos, but basically they wrote crazy and shocking lyrics. Unfortunately, the singer Rodolfo Abrantes "found god" and left the band. I hope you enjoy

O Rappa is amazing. I love the collaboration they did with the beautiful Maria Rita. Thanks for posting this Tartaruga.
