Topic: Instructional Videos - Match Commentary with Tips
Most instructional videos take a move and break it down into it's components. The opponent is not struggling and acts as a perfect opponent would. These are great and necessary to teach the individual moves.
Some instructional videos will take this one step further and set up some combinations. Combinations are valuable to see how one move can flow into the next under ideal conditions. What the pre-planned combinations lack is the necessary adjusting to an opponent' s reaction.
What I would find invaluable is to analyze some actual rolling/ sparring matches in a play-by-play fashion. As a beginner I'm constantly trying to figure out what to do next as oftentimes the actual varies significantly from practice. Maybe take different levels of matches and freeze frame them with a commentary by Draculino? Draculino could comment on what the participants are doing, what they should do and what they shouldn't do. If a participant gets caught in a submission or bad position he could back up the play and see how it evolved and explain how the outcome could have been avoided if such and such were to happen. I believe analyzing an actual match through the eyes of a master would help student's games significantly as my game is definitely stronger with a plan than when I'm thinking "now what?".
Thoughts?
