Topic: Pronunciation

First a few helpful links:
http://www.forvo.com/languages/pt/ - Here you can type in a word and if it has been pronounced, you can hear someone say it

http://www.sonia-portuguese.com/text/pronunciation.htm - This is a very well done pronunciation guide, but it is lacking the vowels with accents

VOWELS WITH ACCENTS
Accents often change the sound of the vowel, and in Portuguese every vowel is pronounced.

A
á - rápido [HAh-pee-do]: fast
à - à [AH]: to the
ã - leão [leh-OWng]: lion
â - distância [dist-UHN-see-ah]: distance

E
é - céu [SEH-ooh]: sky
ê - você [voh-SAY]: you

I
í - vídeo [VEE-djee-oh]: video

O
ô - avô [ah-voh]: grandfather
ó - avó [ah-vaw]: grandmother
õ - leões [leh-OYs]: lions

U
ú - dúvida [DOO-vee-dah]: doubt
ü - tranqüilo [tran-KWEE-lo]: calm

    How do you pronounce this.

Do (like dodo bird), so doee-do

Not to be confused with doído (same pronounciation but you drag the ee more, so it comes out do-ee-do) que significa  painful/in pain

Re: Pronunciation

Here's a site with a bunch of podcasts on pronunciation. The emphasis is on the difference between Portuguese and Spanish but even if you don't speak Spanish, it's still helpful.

I just quickly checked it out, and it looks awesome! You can download the podcasts and listen to them while you are driving to work or school
