I agree with Capoeira, only for those without access to a school should get stripes, and then test at a school for a belt.

wonder how many of the GC blue belts have shown up at tournaments and actually competed at the blue belt level.......and if they are still mobile.
i guess i agree with mostly everyone else.  you can "regurgitate" the moves, but there is no way you can learn all the little detail.  a infomercial cant teach you how to be heavy and it most certainly cant prepare you for an opponent of "equal" size at the same belt level that trains in a gym hands on. learn the stuff, test in front of someone that is qualified to test you, in person. why half ass it.  if you just want a belt buy one on ebay and get a diploma from the back of BB magazine. otherwise put forth the full effort.  i fully understand the deal about not having a school around.  i was driving and hour and a half 1 way several years ago, a few times a week. it just got too expensive and i had to stop. now here i am getting started all over again at 36. i woulda just done without if i couldnt do it right.
