Topic: Starting One

Like I have posted before, I am from Pensacola, Fl.  For the longest time we only had Judo, TKD, Karate...etc.  Like many others, I have a dream to one day open my own gym (preferably Gracie Barra) in my home town.  We have ALOT of military bases in the area.  It's home to the Blue Angels.  Plus, white sandy beaches are only 15 min away from anywhere in town.  If you've never been..it's a must see.  Enough promoting.  My question lies with http://www.alexruasbjj.com/homepage.html.  I am never one to question anyone concerning there BJJ experience but I did research Alex Ruas and found that he has made alot of enemies.  I wonder if he is one of those guys Prof. Drac talked about that had there belts change color mid flight from Brazil.  My research went as far as Google and Sherdog.  Anything else would be great.  I want to know because I still plan to bring BJJ to Pensacola but I want to know if it is a respectable gym that I can co-habitate with.

To secure ourselves against defeat lies in our own hands, but the opportunity of defeating an enemy is provided by the enemy himself. Sun Tzu ..

Re: Starting One

I read that this guy was full of crap too.  There's a Pedro Sauer affiliate in your area though.  His name is Pat Vito, and he's a brown belt under Professor Sauer:

Hope that helps!

Re: Starting One

There should be more affiliates in Madrid! I've only found one that I like, but unfortunately he's not exactly close to where I live. Madrid is huge, but there's only a handful of bjj teachers. sad
