Topic: Counter to this half guard pass?

The guy on the bottom: He does the basic cross face (or arm across the far shoulder) while facing the feet and grabbing a knee.  The wrinkle is that he pulls your hips off the floor and onto his bottom leg before working his top leg free.  This escape has been gold against me by the higher belts and it's pissing me off because I don't get out of a dominate postion too often.  Suggestions to counter this pass?

As in he's going to deep half guard?

Are you not able to cross face him to flatten him out?  That's the key for stopping many of the half guard sweeps.

No I'm on the bottom of half guard and he is freeing his trapped leg.

I believe I understand.

When his leg slides under yours he is no longer keeping his weight flat down on you.  You should be able to escape a bit and get some distance - and then get your top knee between you two.  Then you can work a choke or a full guard recovery.

Re: Counter to this half guard pass?

This video shows the position of the top guy except he has pulled my hip up onto his bottom knee.  If the bottom guy lets go of his figure four or other leg hold to adjust the top guy actually gets what he wants and pulls his top leg out.  Very frustraiting because being on your side as the bottom guy makes the pass easier for the top guy,

Re: Counter to this half guard pass?

there is s host of half guard sweeps from the bottom position.  i prefer one where i immobilize his free leg the tail of his gi, on that same side, kick my hip out to the opposite side, hook his trapped leg and sweep.  hard to describe in text, but it works for me.  even if the sweep is stuffed, i have him trapped and prevents the pass as well as diverts his attention.  worst case is u dont get the sweep but amongst his frustration from being stuck you obtain full guard.

Any possibilities of Draculino showing more deep half stuff. Possibly some sparing videos etc...

We can make some more half guard...

As far as breaking posture, just go with the usual.  If he's really stiff up, bump sweep.  Alternatively, swim your arms underneath with force.  Or do two on one to clear one of the grips.  Or use your hips to pull him in.  Or just be patient until he makes a move!
