Draculino – What is the most efficient martial art for women?

Thursday, September 9th, 2010

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is, without a doubt, the most efficient and relevant martial art style for women.

Women are, as nature made them, physically smaller and weaker than men. Most of the aggressions that a woman will suffer will be based on strength and size superiority.
Besides that fact, 90% of the aggressions will be based on sexual intentions, which means that the aggressor WILL get a hold of the victim and try to hold, put on the floor, maybe throw some strikes while on the ground, then rape, or kiss by force or even worse, choke the female to death.
Imagine now this scenario: Basically, strikes wont save the girl. There is no distance to throw an effective strike. The female will be facing basically a grappling and ground fighting scenario. That is why BJJ is, and will always be, the most effective system to offer women when you talk abut self-defense.
Analyzing footage and police reports, you notice that lots of the aggressions that occur are exhaustively trained at a BJJ school, such as but not limited to bear hug over and under the arms, rear bear hugs, front chokes, head locks, rape attempt between the women”s legs, strikes from the mount position, wrist grabs, hair pulling and etc. You don’t see a guy and a girl in a striking conflict. You see them locked.
That is why, there is no choice for the ladies: if you REALLY want to defend yourself, join a serious BJJ school, under a instructor who knows about the self-defense system immortalized by Grand Master Carlos and Helio Gracie.

A good example of a defense taught to a common attack where BJJ uses leverage to defeat an opponent with little strength being used.

Here is a submission you can use against an attacker from a position that a woman might find herself in when being attacked by a man.

Draculino – Romulo Barral and Samuel Braga Rolling

Wednesday, September 1st, 2010

Romulo Barral and Samuel Braga have a nice slow technical roll while we were all hanging out after class on the day of Draculino’s fight for strikeforce.
It isn’t an intense match, just mostly smooth transitions in an out submissions and positions but its was really cool to watch them work.

Draculino – Congratulations to Frankie Edgar and Damien Maia

Tuesday, August 31st, 2010

Congratulations to my recent training partner Frankie Edgar and also to Damien Maia for their performances and victories in the last UFC. Congratulations to professor Ricardo Almeida for leading Frankie to victory and proving that he is the number one light weight in the world. Frankie is the epitome of a hard worker and persistence coupled with great technique and tons of heart. Damien is a true representative of Jiu-Jitsu and if he is not fighting someone from my team, he will always be my choice.

Draculino – My thoughts on my win at StrikeForce

Tuesday, August 24th, 2010

POPPA ROTZEE:
How do you feel about your win at StrikeForce?

Draculino:
Not so bad for an old bird……I felt alive again on that fight! The itch came and I followed my guts. Now I can say (only people from my inner circle knew about it) but I had a serious neck injury on my training for that fight that almost cost me the return to the cage. I was actually fighting to be able to fight. Thank GOD I could get better with the great help of Doctors. AJ VASQUES, VU TRAN and LUBOR and my training partners. Lots of people said that I was crazy to be back with a opponent with 45 fights and in Houston, but all my life I dealt with challenges and I knew that I could do good, could show people that I am not done. It was the desiree of showing myself and others that I could do it.
Traning camp was great (besides the injuries)! 10 days in Brazil, 3 weeks in Houston, one week in New York and New Jersey. My training partners were the best! Too many to list but you know who you are. My coaches did a fantastic job (Gordo, Soca, Kristen Sommers, Frank Adame and Renzo Gracie) and I had the great help of MAster Rafael Cordeiro and Professor Ricardo Big Dog Almeida also.
Fight was ok…..they cut the time of each round from 5 minutes to 3 minutes 3 days before the fight! So I had to suck it up and adapt my game on last moment.
I made the weight with no problem. Fight was kind of what I expected. Rocky is very, very strong for a 145er. He is like a mini Chuck Liddell when you talk about standing back up after he goes to the ground. We exchanged a little on the feet then he defended the takedown but I got him on a heel hook that he scaped well but I was on top after. I did not allow him to get back up after this and used a neck control to pin him in the cage and knee him on the body, while trying to attack his neck.
Second round was boring and we deserved the booing. But I could not try a takedown while he was waiting this attempt to get me with a good shot (like he did lots of other times). So I used low kicks and body kicks to attract him. He came and I clinched. Pin him on the cage and I threw some knees on his body. round over.
Third round, Gordo told me: “you are winning. But the last impression is what wins fights. I want you to finish him!”. Then he said I smiled ( I don’t remember) and I put a jab, kick combo, he came to respond, I took him down on a single leg but now on the center of the cage. When he tried to get back up, I got his back. He defended really well grabbing my hand with 2 of his but I used my leg to trap one of his arms. Then I tried the choke. His neck is short so I was fighting it. Soca told me one minute! Then I thought about the armbar. I tried for a bit but on the wrong timing. He defended but I went back to his back. He tried to stand up with me and gave me a perfect angle to hit him. I did it and the last punch hit the side of his head and he dropped again on his knees doing a weird noise. I smelled the blood and went for the neck, now unattended. But round was over. I knew I won but, with all the respect, 5 minute rounds that fight would not go to decision.
Felt great after. I was almost forgetting: I like to fight!

POPPA ROTZEE:
Do you plan on fighting again, or was this a one time deal?

Draculino:
Now my goal is to expand my school and open another on in the next 6 months. After that…(winks) ….we will see :)

Romulo Barral talks about Draculino’s upcoming fight

Thursday, August 19th, 2010

Poppa-Rotzee:
“What do you think about Draculino’s upcoming fight with Rocky Long”

I can’t wait to see Dracos fighting again , he is a natural competitor and for sure he will do great , I have been with Dracos since I was 16 years old and he always trained with all of us and he was always in good shape, better then all of us , I am flying to Houston to support him and watch him smash his opponent. My prediction is katagatami choke in the first round. War Draculino!!!

Samuel Braga –

Poppa-Rotzee:
“What do you think about Draculino’s upcoming fight with Rocky Long”

Samuel Braga:
Draculino has always been a great competitor during his competition and fighting period. I think after he made so many champions and with all his experience, combined with his refined technique, he has a strong chance for the win. Everyone is probably wondering the reason for him wanting to fight, because has proven already to be a great competitor. They have to understan, its not for the money, its not for the fame. He is doing it as a personal achievement, he is doing it because he loves to compete and test himself. I’m a big fan just not only as a fighter but as person with great character . I’m sure of his win . Good luck Master!

Draculino – Training with Frankie Edgar at Ricardo Almeida’s.

Friday, August 13th, 2010

I’m having a great time training out here, I was here in the morning class training at Ricardo Almeidas school here in New Jersey. He showed me a lot of really cool techniques that I think will be really useful for my fight. I also had a great experience training with Frankie Edgar. He is an incredible athlete and he showed me a lot of things that will translate perfectly over to my fight. In addition to some great techniques we passed back and forth to each other, we also had live sparring for 3 rounds that was really awesome. Frankie and Ricardo are both great guys and I’m blessed to have the opportunity to train with talented guys like that.

Draculino – Thoughts on the Bj Penn vs Frankie Edgar Rematch

Thursday, August 12th, 2010

Its going to be a really tuff match, just like the first one was. Frankie really showed his true colors and his conditioning showed throughout the fight. Edgar arguably has the best stamina in MMA. He is just as quick and as strong in the later rounds as he is in the early rounds. He has superb wrestling, great boxing and he is training jiu-jitsu with one one of the best, Ricardo Almeida. So I think, that he still has conditions to keep his belt..if I were BJ, I would trust on Jiu-Jitsu and try to get the victory from there. But it wont be easy at all. I can’t wait to see this fight.

Draculino – Thoughts on Anderson vs Sonnen

Friday, August 6th, 2010

I think Anderson will probably knock him out or possibly even submit him, it just depends on which Anderson shows up. Not the last one for sure. And hopefully Sonnen will be submitted as he was several times by jiu-jitsu guys, even though he says jiu-jitsu is not good and that its gay…maybe its because he taps all the time. But don’t get me wrong,Sonnen is a tuff guy and can beat pretty much anyone, no matter how ignorant he is about jiu-jitsu.
