Seminars Schedule

Friday, February 26th, 2010

I just had two seminars in Texas: Abilene and McAllen. They are always great! The instructors, Jeremy and David Bella, are showing some great work and GB is well represented in those cities!

I will be going to Lubbock, to the Pittman’s Martial Arts Academy (which I’ve visited for almost 10 years in a row), to visit my friend and third degree Black Belt under Carlos Machado, Klay Pittman.  He is the chief instructor there.

I am also scheduled to go to the GB Woodlands on March 20th. This is after my visit to my school in Brazil, Gracie Barra BH, where I will be teaching from the 8th until the 14th of March.  I also plan on attending an MMA event in the city while I am there.

We have several other things lined up for the year. Keep in touch!

Draculino featured on The FightWorks Podcast

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

Draculino had the honor of being interviewed for the FightWorks Podcast this weekend.  Be sure and checkout the site/podcast and hear what he had to say!

PODCAST #199 – Vinicius “Draculino” Magalhaes

“Vinicius “Draculino” Magalhaes is one of Gracie Barra’s big names, having trained since 1985 alongside Carlos Gracie Junior and Renzo Gracie. After beginning judo as a youngster in Rio de Janeiro, he went on to take up surfing as many young men do. Through surfing he met Renzo and Ralph Gracie, and began training jiu-jitsu in 1985. Draculino originally intended to become a lawyer in adulthood but as we know now, he set that aside and concentrated on competing in jiu-jitsu and producing students who would become champions. Draculino has produced such talent as Romulo Barral, Albert Crane, and Samuel Braga.

In addition to telling us stories of the old days in Rio, Draculino introduces his brand new online BJJ training platform called Draculino BJJ Training.”

A funny story…

Friday, February 19th, 2010

There are lots of funny stories from the BJJ community. We could go on forever telling them, but there is one that really stands out for me.

One time I was sick and unable to go and teach a class. My assistant instructor had a car wreck and was also unable to show up in time. So one of my senior students, Danilo Felipe, was there and offered to teach the class.

There was a girl, a famous Brazilian model, who was there for Danilo’s first ever BJJ lesson. Danilo didn’t know the curriculum for the first lesson. So after the warm ups he goes up to the extremely pretty, and shy, girl and lies down belly-up on the mat and says, “Come on sweetie, mount me. I will show you how to dominate a man here!”

The girl says, “Excuse me? What are you talking about?”

He goes, “About domination, and next I will show you how to finish a man from the all fours position.”

The model took off running scared and Danilo couldn’t understand why! I had to talk to the girl a lot and make her understand that it was just a miscommunication on Danilo’s part. Even to this day, Danilo still can’t figure out why she took off running. He was just trying to show her some Jiu-Jitsu!

My Predictions on UFC 110

Wednesday, February 17th, 2010

Nogueira is one of the toughest men that have ever lived! Besides being a great technician, he has experience. He has faced some of the toughest men of all time and he does not need to prove anything to anyone. Velasquez is a tough guy with great wrestling skills and overall athleticism, but I think that Nog will take this one by submission.

Wanderlei is a legend and he is definitely hungry! Bisping impressed me in his last fight but Wand has evil intentions. This means trouble for Bisping, but we’ll see…
